This site serves as the Digital Archives and Exhibition space for the Alexander Funeral Home and Alexander Family. The site includes an exhibit page, a resources section that links to a variety of historical resources, and a contribute section.
The Alexander Family owns and operates the oldest African American owned and managed business in Mecklenburg County. In addition, the family itself has established and continues to maintain an important position in the Charlotte community. Zechariah Sr., Kelly Sr., and Fred Alexander--all owners of the funeral home at some point--took prominent stances on political issues throughout the twentieth century. Specifically, Kelly and Fred participated in civic activism and the Civil Rights Movement.
The site's resources were compiled in cooperation with UNC Charlotte's J. Murrey Atkins Special Collections Department. All resources included and linked to can be found in the physical or digital collections managed by the library.
